Ice + Gelled Lights + Camera = ART

Our Cabin Fever Series launched with a fun afternoon with our Gels and Ice Workshop!

With the start of 2024, it is winter in Wisconsin making it the perfect time to host a Cabin Fever Series! We launched our Cabin Fever Series on January 20 with our Gels and Ice Workshop. We welcomed 15 community members from ages 4 to 60+ joined us for a fun afternoon playing with lights, coloring gels, ice, and macro lens to create colorful out of this world scenes and abstract art.

After a quick introduction and tutorial, participants were able to select two different colored gelled lights, a block of ice, and were able to take turns exploring the different pockets of the ice pieces to see what scenes they could create in their macro lens. After taking a collection of images, everyone got to work on editing their images with guidance (and assistance if needed). After editing and determining their favorite image, each participant got to leave with an 8x10 print - thanks to Mark for printing everyone’s finished pieces!

We're so happy to share these fun images from the event!

All of these images were created using:

  • Standard Household Ice

  • Lights with color gels applied to them

  • Macro lenses

“The workshop was a perfect January afternoon activity for my mom, myself, and my five year old. We had lots of fun picking out and playing with different gel colors, types of ice textures, and making some new friends. We now have a print of my daughter’s photos that she has proudly displayed in her room. Thank you Photo Opp for providing an opportunity to spend an afternoon enjoying and creating art.” - Morgan
