Building Bridges Through Stories and Music
Photo Opp & NEWVoices Collaboration
with Hope & Help Together, and Common Ground
In October of 2024, Photo Opp partnered with NEWVoices, Hope & Help Together, and Common Ground to celebrate and uplift the stories of immigrants in the Fox Cities.
This inspiring collaboration blended photography, music, and dialogue, fostering meaningful connections and understanding throughout the community. As part of the Immigrant Portrait Project, photographer Graham Washatka of Graham Images volunteered his time and talent. He captured stunning and authentic portraits of local immigrants, showcasing their unique journeys and identities.
These portraits, brought to life with exceptional printing by Mark Ferrell, were featured during the NEWVoices Impact Series concert on October 26. This added a powerful visual element to the evening, creating a multi-sensory celebration of immigrant stories. The concert, “Immigrant Stories: Rise to New Opportunities,” held at Lawrence University Memorial Chapel, was a heartfelt exploration of immigration through choral music, cultural performances, and personal storytelling. Featuring the NEWVoices Choir, High School Master Singers, Appleton Boychoir, and Lawrence Community Girl Choir, the event also showcased works by composers Saunder Choi and John Muehleisen, as well as a mesmerizing tabla performance by Sutanu Sur.
Personal immigrant narratives intertwined with the music, making the event deeply moving and unforgettable. Photo Opp is honored to have collaborated with such dedicated partners to celebrate diversity and inspire dialogue through art, photography, and music.
Together, we continue to build bridges and foster a stronger, more inclusive community.
