Professional Opportunities in the Arts for Local High School Students

Education and career development are two of the foundational pillars that our programming is built on. In 2022, we developed our Mentorship Program to provide mentor opportunities between working photographers and young adults interested in photography as a way to introduce them to real experiences within photo and video.

In 2022, we provided 10 local high school/college students with the experience of professional photography mentorship. To share the impact of our Mentorship Program we interviewed Olivia, a high school senior, about her experience:

"I think [the mentorship program] was extremely beneficial for me. I got a real-life experience that I hadn’t ever had before. I think it really helped me get a feel for how everything works, and what I like. Everything kind of just made more sense after I got to talk to someone who does [photography] for a living.”

A few of Olivia’s favorite images that she captured at the event.

“Overall, the experience was very beneficial and I got a taste of what professional photography is like. I would love to do it again. And it was just so fun and amazing.”

As we are now halfway through 2023, we are continuing to develop the ways we involve, educate, and inspire young people in our community. Our team is actively working to expand opportunities for more students, like Olivia in 2023 and beyond. We hope you'll consider making a donation to Photo Opp, so more students can experience the support and encouragement of our mentorship program.
