An Evening of Development - Film, Community, and More!

A community color film development night brings new and experienced film photographers together.

Photo Opp has been able to host a few low-key photo development nights throughout 2022. These photo nights have been a few of us board members (and regular volunteers) getting together to talk about the film, cameras, and processing. With the new year, we knew it was time to open up the opportunity to participate in our photo nights to other community members.

To find our group for this event, we put out a call on our Instagram story for three open slots to come to develop with us FREE of charge!  In 24 hours, we had 15 people interested in being a part of the event.  We drew names and posted them on Instagram and Facebook announcing the winners.

On January 3, 2023, we hosted our first official community development night which included three new members to our photo night crew for a total of six participants. Our event was at The Draw in Appleton. We covered the basics of loading the reels and prepping the film to be developed. The energy was great. We had a group of photographers, some who just started shooting film some that have been shooting for a while but never have developed before to some who have but are a little bit rusty.  We were happy to supply the equipment and the chemicals for each participant. Participants only needed to bring two rolls of their exposed color film.

Below are a few images of our community development night crew at The Draw.

In total, 18 rolls of film were developed at the event. Photo Opp was able to scan all of the images and email them to participants within 2 days of the event.

Below are a few of the images that were developed!

“I have been extremely excited ever since learning about the Photo Opp. Film Photography is my passion and it felt to be in a room with people who were as passionate. It was inspiring. It reignited my love for developing films. I think it is an amazing opportunity for people to fall in love with this art form. I am extremely excited for what this will add to the community.” -
